My Little Patch of Dirt One year later

Hello to all my blogging friends, I hope this post finds you all well and happy!

It has been one year since we made the move to Redlands. I have been really hard at work on My Little Patch of Dirt  ever since we moved in. I just wanted to share some before and after photos with you.

June 2011 when we moved in this is what it looked like. I had an idea there was potential in this patch of dirt. I mean look at Las Vegas add a little water and see what grows. Honestly I really didn't know if I could pull it off but what the heck all I had was time oh and water.
I brought several of my plants with me as you can see in the third photo. I notices as I was watering them grass was starting to grow? I used to go out every morning and pull 60-80 weeds. It was a ton of work but after awhile more grass  patches started to show up.+I lost a lot of those plants after the move but split and transplanted many others.  The next photos show us making the island.
We finally got the island built, the waterfall going, the swing up the car port covered and the two cabanas up and covered. These photos are from about mid August. Progress slow but sure. See how the patches of grass are starting to show up.

Now One Year Later.
The new photos are from last weekend. I love having our friends and family over for BBQ's. If I am not playing in the craft room you can can find me out on the swing reading a book and or just working on the yard .

Well I guess a little bit of water and a lot of hard work pays off. We really do enjoy our new Patch of Dirt. Who would have thought the sadness of losing a home could feel so different one year later.
Thanks for stopping by My Little Patch of Dirt. I'm going out side and sit on the swing and enjoy the rest of the day.

Sketch Frenzy Friday 6/22

Hello to all my blogging friends, I hope this post finds you all well and happy!

Yah! It's sketch Frenzy Friday. I am so glad for Fridays, it means I get a chance to kick back and relax with my honey over the weekend. However this Friday sort of snuck up on me lollol and I had to make my card tonight.Yikes, so much for getting to bed early. I really liked this sketch when I looked at it earlier this week. Yes, I checked it out on Tuesday morning with full intentions of making a card when I returned in the afternoon. But I sliced my ring finger fairly deep doing some service work at church and was unable to do much of anything until this afternoon. I was supposed to get fingerprinted for a child care job I have for the summer on Wednesday but the lady at the office said I had to come back in 3 weeks. Yikes,I hope that does not delay me getting paid. I need more stamping supplies BIG SMILE!
Angela Waters designed this terrific sketch it is just screaming CAS

Now you all know if you have followed my blog for any length of time I have a very difficult time with CAS. I have to use soooo much restraint when I am challenged to create a card from a sketch like Angela's. It just kills me because I have to sit on my hands to stop from adding more... and more... and more ... well you get the point. But I kind of liked how this CAS card turned out.

What do you think did I pull it off OK?
I used our new In Colors Primrose Petals and Raspberry Ripple card stock and inks (I just love the new ink pads!) I was able to use a couple other new items on this card, the Textured Embossing Chevron Folder and a couple images from the From My Heart stamp set. I stamped 3 separate images one in black , one in Primrose and one in Raspberry inks. I cut out the banner and the Tea Pot and the back piece in the three colors, then re-layered them all together making sure to add dimensionals to the banner and the tea pot. Add a few little pearls and there you have it! One Clean and Simple card for a friend!
Here is a look at the inside
Thanks so much Angela for the wonderful sketch and the challenge. Your next stop on our mini blog hop is to visit the very talented Robbie Rubula over at http://inkedx2.blogspot.com

VC Rocks 2nd Blog Hop - Any Size Card

Hello to all my blogging friends, I hope this post finds you all well and happy!

Yippee it is our second blog hop of the summer here at VC Rocks. This months theme is to create
Any Size Cards.  You came all the way from Hawaii to visit my blog.  www.robinscraftroom.com Wasn't Robins  creations gorgeous. She is so Uber talented, Aloha Robin !
If you get lost along the way and or would like to start from the beginning please click here http://vcrocks.blogspot.com/
After a long time spent in contemplation over what to come up with for this blog hop. I decided to create a gift card set. We always need one of these right! The set includes  6 - 3x3 cards with envelopes, one larger card , and a beautiful gift bag to put all  the little cards in. It is very easy to make and is well received.
Here it is
This is a simple brown paper lunch sack that I decorated with the new In Color Midnight Muse and new DSP Comfort Cafe. I also included Cajon Craze and Marina Mist. for the extra layers. The handle is made with  Soft Suede Polka Dot Ribbon . The closure is a  pretty Antique Brad. I thought the front and side panels needed some extra texture,so I ran the panels through the Big Shot and used the Vintage Wallpaper Textured Embossing Folder. I used the Top Note Die to create the lid . I love this die as it always makes a great  flowing cover.
Here is a side view
Here is a look at the six 3x3 cards
I really like using the Bitty Banners and the Itty Bitty Stamps. They come in really handy for small sentiments. The pretty lace border is another new product called Finishing Touches Edgelits.
I wasn't quite sure I would like the new yellow color Summer Star Fruit, but it matches perfectly with the other new In Colors and this DSP .

Here is a look at the larger card. I gave a sneak peek of it  yesterday on my blog for the Sketch Frenzy Friday  Mini Blog Hop.
Now for a look at the complete set.

I hope you enjoyed my projects today.  If you have additional questions please do not hesitate to leave me a message and I will get back to you ASAP. Enjoy the rest of our weekend and out Any Size Card Blog Hop.

SFF Mini Blog Hop 6/14/12

Hello to all my blogging friends. I hope this post finds you all well and happy!

Well I had good news this week Mr Brown came with some new SU goodies Yippee!!! I was soooooo excited. There are so many things in the new catalog that I am just itching to get my hands on lollol, and now with the soon to be released Mini Catty I am just going to be overwhelmed with what to choose next. But for now I get to play with my new stuff.

So let's get this Mini Blog Hop started. Our featured sketch was created by the very talented Tina Munzke. It is a very basic sketch, but that is what makes it so much more difficult. There is plenty to think about on how to use the shapes and the space provided. Tina you really did challenge me this week, thanks. Here is Tina's sketch
Here is my card

I turned the sketch on its side to make a top fold card. I added several layers and swapped out the circle so I could use one of the new Apothecary Dies . I chose Comfort Cafe DSP for the background piece added some pearls. Then stamped the sentiment with "happy birthday" from the Itty Bitty Banners stamp set. Next I  used another new Framelits Die called Bitty Banners. These little Dies are so easy to work with I was happily surprised. Good size clean cuts and like I said easy to use.
Here is a peek at the inside too,
The sentiment is from the Blessings From Heaven  stamp set it is a new catty item as well.

This card is a preview piece from a gift set I made for the second VC Rocks Blog Hop this weekend. Please come back Saturday morning to hop around our Hop (I am the Lucky #7 stop). I have a very pretty and fun gift set to share with you.
If you would like to create a card from Tina's wonderful sketch please upload it to our website http://sketchfrenzyfriday.blogspot.com/

Sketch Frenzy Friday 6/8/12

Hello to all my blogging friends. I hope this post finds you all well and happy.

Hi and welcome to Sketch Frenzy Friday's Mini Blog Hop I am glad you are here. What did you think of Crafty Maria's beautiful card. I so love her work!
Today's fun sketch was designed by Tammy Fite. I looked at this sketch for several days trying to decide which way I wanted to go with it. This sketch has loads of potential.
This is what I came up with. I went soooo way out of my comfort box with these colors. But I love them together. I even pulled a bunch of these colors together for another swap card I have to make.
I kept pretty much to the sketch with the exception of the additional layer of white CS behind the three panels. They just did not POP with out it!
I ran the panels one each through the Lattice, Polka Dot and Vintage Wallpaper Textured Embossing Folders. I used Melon Mambo for the card base and one of the panels as well as Regal Rose and Rich Razzelberry CS. The background piece is Night of Navy. Boho Blossoms Punch for the flowers and the Bird Punch for the white leaves. Oh, I almost forgot the half pearls. A girls gotta have some bling right!
This card is really quite striking in person if I do say so myself lolololo.
Here is a shot of the inside too.
I kept it very clean because I am not sure if I want to keep this as a note card or one with a sentiment added?
That's all there is for me today. I sure hope you get a chance to create something fun too.

Special Gift for a Friend

Hello to all my blogging friends. I hope this post find you all well and happy!

I had to make a special gift for a friend today.  I can not show you the inside she might see it lololol.
But I did want to show you all the Gift Bag that I made to go along with it.

It looked so pretty I had to show you. I was really happy that it turned out so nice. I embossed the Flowers and the My Friend front panel with a Navy Embossing Powder, so it has a nice shine to it. The Bow is a six loop double ribbon bow. The 1/4 Not Quite Navy Grosgrain Ribbon really holds up the Bashful Blue Stripped Grosgrain Ribbon to make a very nice bow. The little bird from the Natures Walk Stamp Set came out really cute too. I water colored it with Marina Mist, Pacific Point and Daffodil Delight markers. Then used the SU Blender Pen to smooth out the colors. I cut the bird out and attached it to the stripped panel with a thicker Foam Tape so it would stand out a bit more. There are several sheets of sparkly white tissue paper in there also but for some reason the sparkles did not photo very well?

Just a little something to hold you over until Friday lolol.
Chat soon and go create something fun.

Just a little something for a Monday

Hello to all my blogging friends. I hope this post finds you all well and happy.

Over at VC Rocks we were given a challenge last week to make a background piece using a new or old technique that you like. What I didn't read (my bad) was it was supposed to be along the lines of a masculine theme.  This weeks theme was to make a masculine card and incorporate the piece from last week. OOPS!
This is what I made.
OK, so not very masculine right?  Well lets see what I can do with this. I decided not to start all over and accept my responsibility and take the challenge anyhow. I really like the technique of embossing one piece to another piece of card stock. The Doily piece is a piece of Daffodil Delight DSP card stock (Trying and say that in a masculine voice) lololol. I glued IT (not going to go there again) to a piece of Calypso Coral card stock and ran it through Mr. Big Shot using the Lattice Textured Embossing Folder.
After much contemplation and (Dread just kidding) I mean further ado this is what I came up with.

I sure pulled that one out of the hat. I still think it needs some hardware of some kind. Ill be back!

Ok, I added some Hardware and a few extra Brads. Now I am happy and it is Muy Macho, well sort of.
I hope you have a great day and I'll see you again soon. Make sure you sneak in some time to create something fun.
Thanks for stopping by!
